A glimpse into the Blue Mountains Mystery Tour!

About the Blue Mountains.

Situated only 1 1/2 hours from Sydney, the Blue Mountains is very popular
with tourists due to its many natural, scenic and historical attractions. The Blue Mountains derives its name from the blue halo caused by the oil's released from the huge number Eucalyptus trees.

Originally thought to be impossible to cross by early British settlers (though had beeninhabited by Aboriginals for thousands of years), pioneer explorers Blaxland, Wentworth & Lawson successfully accomplished this feat in 1813. This crossing lead to a road built by convict labour.

Early life in the Blue Mountains was hard going. During the mid 1800's the area was mostly used by grazers, and when gold was discovered became a haven for many would be prospectors, hoping to find their fortune. The increasing travelers to the Western Road brought Inns and other local trade.

With the establishment of a railway system, the Blue Mountains became a thriving colony but with the good also came the bad. A much needed military post was built at Springwood in response to apparent attacks on travelers by local Aboriginals, petty criminals and bush rangers.

With its rich history, from Aboriginal life to European settlement, it is no wonder that the Blue Mountains is full of legends, hauntings and myths!

About the Blue Mountains Mystery Tours.

The Blue Mountains has been privy to many tours however most of them deal with the scenic or basic history of the area, so I was pleasantly surprised, and excited to hear that this tour had started!

Did you know that the original road crossing the Blue Mountains took only 6 months to forge by 28 convicts? Or that one of the most popular legends told to tourists for many years was made up to encourage tourism long ago?

These are only a couple of the many stories you will learn on this fascinating tour!

The Blue Mountains Mystery Tour is run by ghost host Peter (aka Paranormal Pete). Peter grew up in the Blue Mountains where he still lives locally to this day.

During the course of the tour, it is evident that Peter has a deep genuine interest in the paranormal, leading him to complete an Applied Parapsychology course, as well as, of course establishing this ghost tour.

The tour goes for about 4 hours and is filled - exactly as described - with ghost stories, myths, legends, murder, mishaps, and mysteries as well as some fascinating stories about convict days. Quite a bit of ground from Katoomba to the far end of the Mountains is covered in the comfort of a mini-van. You don't just look though - there is also a bit of walking.

During the tour Peter tells some historic tales such as:

Hartley Historic Village Courthouse & Jail built in the 1830's. Strange things happen here!
Convict stockades - area of lost souls
The ghost Of Mt Victoria Pass - haunted by the mysterious - Lady In Black (more about her later!)
An abandoned Cemetery
The Hanging Tree - where numerous hangings have caused
The Wells - the Blackies Revenge

There's something on this tour for everyone, as well as the ghosts, legends and history, Cryptozoology (strange animals) and UFO lovers will delight in some strange stories!

On the night

It was a dark and stormy night.... a term often used in novels, but tonight it was literal! A cold sunny day turned into a windy rainy night which really added to the atmosphere. As many of you may know, rain, storms and other such weather conditions can actually stir up ghostly activity.

During the night the tour participants had a few odd experiences, including strange feelings in a couple of the locations ranging from sadness to comforting or "safeness". One of the strange locations (I won't name it so you can see if you feel the same way!) suddenly had the feeling of foreboding.

Peter documents each tour and has found that many of the locations hold very similar reactions from participants, and usually these people have had little or no knowledge of the area or the tour.

Other experiences so far noted on different nights by different people are sightings of an apparition in a particular spot, strange lights that have appeared - once in front of an entire tour group - only to disappear suddenly, a strange animal sighting and a hanging man to name a few.

During the night, we did take some readings using various equipment such as EMF Meters, Digital Thermometers and Infra-Red video, Still cameras etc, however due to the weather conditions could not get many accurate readings. From the few readings & anomalies that did come up however, we definitely feel that the areas covered on this tour warrant further Investigation and look forward to booking another tour soon!

Another strange thing that plagued me on this tour was - flat batteries. Now you may not feel that it is too strange, however places that are reputed to be haunted are notorious for de-charging batteries. This is due to the high Electro Magnetic Fields (EMF) that ghosts require to manifest - so basically they are "taking" energy. On that night 4 pieces of my equipment (all of which had fresh batteries) had suddenly lost charge something that has not happened to me for quite a while! Coincidence? Perhaps!

*** SPOILER WARNING ***

Another experience on the tour was whilst we were entering one location, notorious for the legend the "lady in black" also known as the Ghost of Victoria Pass. This was one of the first locations in which the group became rather subdued, which has been noted on other tours as well. One of the participants - a member of our research Team - had a "vision" of a woman lying on the road. She described this as very vivid, to the point of being able to describe the position of her body. This intrigued Peter immediately as on a previous tour another woman (oddly enough, with the same name!) had seen the same thing! It was definitely a goose bump moment!

*** END SPOILER WARNING ***

Ghost Hunters dream tour!

You may find on some tours that cameras or other recording equipment are not permitted for various reasons - this is certainly not the case on this tour. In fact participants are encouraged to bring them along! In many tours different cameras have captured various anomalies, including the notorious "orb". Peter keeps a folder of such anomalies which is increasing with each tour.

As mentioned above, many of the places visited on this tour have had documented sightings so you're very likely to experience something whether it be personally or someone else on the tour. It's definitely a ghost hunters dream!

Do I recommend this tour?

For sure! 100% The Blue Mountains Mystery Tour has something for everyone whether you have no interest, a slight interest or eat sleep and breathe the paranormal.

Also, as the mini bus can hold up to 11 people it's a perfect outing for you, a friend - or 10 of your closest friends.

You can be sure that you will walk away knowing a lot more about the Blue Mountains than you ever did - even if you have lived there all your life!

Another great thing is that Peter is continuously researching and adding to the tour, so even if you have been before you could go again and learn something new.

Tip: It is recommended that you take good walking shoes, warm clothes and maybe an umbrella or rain jacket just in case. The weather is quite unpredictable here, but don't let that deter you, this tour is enjoyable rain or shine.

Enjoy the tour, you won't be sorry!

- Kelly
