Please
note: This tour is no longer operated as the Parramatta Orphanage/Asylum
is now private offices.
The tour
was great! very informative and the entire place very depressing and
spooky and Judith really knew her stuff. I went on it early last year
I think it was, so the details have pretty much left me.
However, something weird happened and I still wonder whether it was
real. I would be interested to know if anyone else had a similar experience.
We were told about a little boy who drowned in a cesspit(I think)
and that people have heard him laughing and playing.
Then, a minute or so later (I wasn't thinking about the boy), when
I was standing at the top of a spiral set of stairs (I think it looked
out into the courtyard), a young woman grabbed my arm and said 'did
you hear that?!' She was freaked out and no one else was near us.
I listened and clearly heard a a young child's laugh. It sounded mischievous
and seemed to come from the bottom of the stairs. It was so clear
that I immediately assumed it was a taped sound effect, and started
back down the stairs without thinking, to check.
Of course, once I did think about it, I changed my mind. I (stupidly)
told my friends and the girl and I told the guide, but as by then,
others were saying they saw figures and lights and felt presences
(we had a couple of people who said they were 'sensitive') our claims
seemed as unbelievable to others as theirs seemed to me.)
I still don't know what I heard, but I DEFINITELY heard it and though
I wasn't scared so much as really interested, the younger girl was
really not happy at all!

I was
there one night after the tour ended, and I saw some fire hydrants
looking like children.. So I went there lately with some mates and
we had torches looking into the building but we went in (not the legit
way), but we managed to get in and it was dark full dark couldnt see
5 feet infront of you. But huge bright lights were shining on the
building and on the windows but no lighting for some reason, we got
in and walking around and I heard a noise like heaps of little footsteps
where running around us, and my friends and I were already freaked.
Like I we tryed to leave but every door seemed the same for some
reason it was so weird. So when we managed to get out we could
see some reflections in the windows, and how DOLPHIN torch didnt
even shine through, we finally left and saw unbelievable in the
basements and underground huts near it, and saw very old hospital
like portable toilets. THis is today 2003! Its closed and getting
renovated, we contacted the security there to tell them about
left rubbish under the building we got back there and weirdly
it was gone.
Later we went for a drive, and my cousin was in the front saw
an old lady rocking on her chair. near the orphanage buildings
she lived almost right next door, he did a quick U-Turn to turn
around and she was gone, and the chair still rocking. then we
see our dog in the car, scared stiff, its like someone from its
own kind saw something die, we walked out of the car the dog wouldnt
even set down on the carpet of the car, we tryed carrying it out
but growled us at such a way it was like his life was in danger.
Full teeth showing looked like it lost it, eyes went completely
black.
We later saw for sure no joke, someone walking through the wall
way past every window. After that we quickyl left, and tryed to
folow the dirt track out, and 2 of our friends wanted togo back,
but they were getting so aggraveted about it, we took him back
for a sec, and we went to the toilet with my other 2 mates to
get food, and we relised we been eating snacks for about 30 minutes,
and we saw our friend standing in a window looking out at his
other mate in the other building looking down in the basement
we saw, the portable hospital toilet.. This was one freaky thing,
we throw rocks at the windows they were standing at and they looked
as if they woke up!!!!! He came back down explaing the weirdest
feeling he felt like his hand was undera childs head... swaying
hair.. He later relised he was holding a dead dog, in his hand
that we'd found half and hour ago, and we saw blood in our car
where we left the dog, and saw our friend holding it by the neck
and half its throat hanging out holding its top teech out.. and
he walked back denying he did anything but said he saw it tryed
to gnaw thru the fence trying to chase a "cat" We saw the cat,
that was a monument, that was a "gravestone" like for chidlren
that were killed in the orphanage.

I
found the tour to be quite fascinating, especially the historical
aspect. At the beginning of the tour, we were led into the small
room on the far right hand side by our tour guide. Just prior
to going up the stairwell, we too experienced a loud bang above
us and the lights turned off simutaneously with the noise. I also
smelt the perfume in the matrons dorm. I found being on the top
floor to be the worst, it was extremely depressing. At one point
I really had to fight my own mind to continue with the rest of
the tour whilst in those rooms.
The
only untoward thing that happened was right at the end of the
tour, when I stepped outside. There was a gentleman (early 20's)
who was just standing there staring at myself and our group. For
some reason I felt I had to point him out to my group of friends,
but no-one paid me any attention. I dont know why he rattled me,
I still cannot explain it to anyone accurately. Partly I guess,
was the way he was looking at us and the fact he was standing
so still! When I pointed to him he turned and walked away towards
the steps on the other side of the grounds. He may have been one
of the investigation crew who were going into the building after
us, but you never know (the building was once used as an institution).....
I wonder whether he was acting reproachful, as our group had been
very cheeky & loud throughtout the whole tour.
Even now if I drive past that area I am drawn to re-visiting the
building and I have to stop myself from doing so!!!!

During
this tour, whilst walking up one of the staircases I smelt a smell
which is similar to starch, or stale beer and thought perhaps
that some naughty people had broken into the building and had
a bit of a party and spilt some.
Upon returning to the area the smell had disappeared completely.
I made the mistake of mentioning the smell to everyone and unfortunately
was the source of a few beer jokes *laugh*. Later in the tour
someone had mentioned my comment to the Tour operator Judith,
who said that another girl on a previous tour a few months ago
had mentioned this as well.
On the same tour whilst exploring one side of the building we
noticed the fragrant smell of roses in what was the Matrons quarters.
This scent could only be detected by a few people in the group,
including myself, much to the annoyance to some people. The strange
thing about it, is that the smell kept moving around this area
of the building. One moment it was there, the next minute it was
gone.
A thorough check of the area showed us that there was no apparent
source of the rose scent and I have smelt the same thing on subsequent
visits, although not as strong as the first time.
Unfortunately
this tour has closed down as the building will undergo renovations
and be used as offices and/or a library of some sort.
It
would be interesting to see if people working in this building
will experience anything!

I like scary things like spirits ghosts and things but Parramatta

When we entered the orphanage there were lights on downstairs.
We moved into the matron’s receiving room and a few minutes later
there was a huge bang and all the lights went out.
We then moved up to the third floor and everything was quiet there.
It all happened after we reached the second floor. As we were
moving from the original section onto the left hand walkway, John
and I were at the back. John was still in the room and I was just
stepping down into the walkway and there was another large bang.
John was showered in dust. It sounded just like the one downstairs
but above us. John thought someone had thrown a rock on the roof.
Later we realised it couldn’t have been that as there was another
floor above us.
When we came back through and going from the room of the bang,
John called us back. He had noticed a dim light at the far end
of the building and a spot of red light. We all looked and saw
the dim light then a black shadowy figure. I then saw two flashes
of light.
We then entered another room and I heard a baby whimpering. I
heard it twice. I moved to the front of the group to tell Judith
and see if anyone else heard it and it was then Judith told me
the room was the nursery. As I was talking I heard a door open
behind me and heard the hinges creak. I moved to let someone through
the door and was stunned to see the door still closed and locked.
The rest of the tour heard that.
I think we then went downstairs to an area where squatters once
were. There were three smaller rooms off the one we stood in.
We looked in the middle room and I shuddered at the hole in the
floor where Judith told us they put the 2-4 year olds when they
misbehaved. I moved out and saw two people move into the room
on the left. I followed them in. They had their torches off so
I left mine off. I saw their shadows. Then the shadows disappeared
and I said, “Is anyone there?” No answer so I turned my torch
on and the room was empty.
We moved into the next room and Judith mentioned once feeling
a cold breeze as she left that room and entered the next. As I
moved through the doorway, I felt the breeze and a temperature
drop.
We then moved to the shower block. I was the first through the
door and immediately smelt a very strong perfume like freesias.
No one else smelt it. It followed me to the next stop and disappeared.
It wasn’t anyone on the tour as we all moved about a lot and I
would have smelt it earlier.
So all in all it was a night of activity.

My 15 year old son and I did the tour in September 2001. It was
the first time he'd been on such a tour, and he was apprehensive
at first, but enjoyed it a lot and has since become interested
in the supernatural and willing to go on other similar tours.
Judith's daughter did a great job telling us her well researched
history of the place. I wish I would have paid more attention
to her, but I was also busy taking photos and talking to the others
in the group. One of the photos had an orb quite visible and likewise
on one part of the video there are a couple of large orbs.
I could smell the roses attributed to the matron, and in fact
it seems she accompanied us home for a while as I smelt the same
smell in the car for a short while after leaving the place.
In summary, very interesting historically, and although I'm not
psychic I felt sadness and distress in the place and have no doubt
there are spirits lingering there. Definitely worth a look.
