Macquarie Park Cemetery

About The Tour

Macquarie Park Cemetery & Crematorium (formerly Northern Suburbs Cemetery) covers 160 hectares. It was dedicated in 1902 & the first burial took place in 1922.

The Macquarie Park Cemetery & Crematorium tour is another fascinating,Mr. Dewberry entertaining & informative tour brought to us by Allan The Hearse Whisperer of Destiny Tours.

Mr. & Mrs. Sowerberry seem to be straight out of the past. They are extremely knowledgeable about the huge cemetery, crematorium & everything in between.

History, celebrity & paranormal buffs, the young-at-heart, or young-in-age will be enthralled with the stories included on this tour from start to finish. You will learn about the life and death of many entertainers, media personalities & important people in Australia's history.

Having attended the tour more than once I can also say that it's continuously evolving. If you go on a tour today, and then again in a few months you WILL notice updates - and even some special inclusions from time to time.

This tour covers a lot of ground so good walking shoes are essential. Lanterns are provided to aid navigation through the twilight, and add to the atmosphere.

The night includes a tour of one of the state of the art funeral chapels which can accommodate hi-tech funeral services, and cremation facilities. Learn more about these on the tour!

What are some of the stories told on the tour?

Without giving too much away, you'll hear about:-

- a popular rock 'n' roll star
- tv, media & movie personalities
- a Prime Minister
- Australia's first kidnapping victim

& more!

Is this tour morbid?

Not at all! In some ways, Western culture is behind many others in the subject of mortality. Interest in death is often seen as morbid or gothic, However, modern TV drama/comedy Six Feet Under or reality TV shows Family Plots, or Don't Drop The Coffin are slowly bringing this "taboo" subject out into open discussion. They say there are 2 things in life that are inevitable: death & taxes. Both are avoided as much as possible - but the more you know about both the better off you are!

Would you recommend this tour?

Absolutely! It's a MUST DO tour, and a great chance to learn about history, as well as interesting trivia & Australian legends!
