The Young Man in the Tuxedo
Submitted by: Kylie - Albury (Added

i have had many experiences in different areas regarding spirits. One that stands out in my mind was this flat above a shop in north Albury.
In 1988 I fell asleep after studying. I was woken by someone pulling and tugging at me while I was asleep on my bed. thinking it ewas my flat mate I mumbled "leave me alone" but the tugging and pulling continued.
I opened my eyes and say a very young man in a black tuxedo with a very white face standing near my bed. as I focused on him he started to back into the corner of the room and faded away. Something seemed to say in my head, "Check your front door.."
I did and it was open. I closed it and then moved the heavy wardrobe to the bedroom door as i was quite frightened. It wasn't until the next day did I remember what happened.
To this day I can't explain the experience.

Highfield
Submitted by: J - Tasmania, Australia (Added 09/11/04)

I live in a small town named Stanley which is located on a small penninsula on the North West coast of Tasmania. Stanley is now famous for 'The Nut', a core of a volcano that sits half in the ocean and on the other side the town nestles beneath it.
Stanley was settled in 1826 by the Van Diemens Land Company to graze sheep. A man by the name of Edward Curr was the chief agent for the Van Diemens Land Co. and he had a small weatherboard cottage built up on a hill that looks over Stanley. In 1832 he had a much grander house built and this was finished in 1835. The house was named 'Highfield' and Edward Curr, his wife Elizabeth and his fifteen children lived there for 14 years. I work at 'Highfield' at night doing ghost tours, with a couple of other guides.
The house has many rooms, a drawing room, gallery/hallway, study, dining room, master bedroom, another bedroom, nursery, cellar, kitchen, servants quarters, butlers pantry and also some rooms in the ceiling that can no longer be accessed except by a man hole (3 bedrooms), one of these has it's own story. Also outbuildings such as stables, cottages, ruins of convict barracks, chapel, slaughterhouse, threshing shed and also a monument for one of Edward Curr's children who was killed accidently on the site in 1835 at age 3 years.
'Highfield' is notorious for scary experiences to guides and visitors to the house. Especially since renovations have been under way to restore the house.
When I first started this year (2004), the first tour I was pretty nervous but afterwards I thought: 'this isn't so scary!' But after a few more tours strange things happened every now and then. The first time I felt scared was when the other guide and I were setting up. Before the visitors get there the other guide waits in the gallery in the darkness with the large doors closed waiting for me to get one of the visitors to knock on the doors, this usually begins the tour.
On this particular night I was bringing the first visitors from the garden into the drawing room with me when the other guide came bursting through the doors frightening the hell out of the two visitors. I asked her what was wrong and she said she could hear a woman talking at the other end of the hall. It was impossible that anyone could be in the house because all doors are locked behind us. I said it was probably me she could hear but she said it wasn't because it was echoing down the hall and it was definitely in the same room she was in. She doens't stand out there anymore at the beginning of the tours!

People have seen footprints in the dust, toddler and adult prints. These were hard to explain because the people that found them were always the last to leave at night (usually the builders and painters) and the first to arrive in the morning. They were from someone with bare feet, and there is no way anyone can come in and not set the alarms off. Some workers have refused to come back, and the regular painter for 'Highfield' won't work on his own, and has even had his wife come and stand in the doorway of the toilets while he painted the floor, after an experience with a ghost who slammed the door and stomped over his wet paint.
A regualrly sighted ghost is of a man named Henry Hellyer. Hellyer was a surveyor and architect for the VDL Co. and he designed 'Highfield' and also discovered many landmarks in the Stanley region. He committed suicide in 1835 by shooting himself at age 42. He didn't actually do it at 'Highfield' however we believe he comes there to keep an eye on restoration work. Hellyer has been seen in one particular window which is the master bedroom upstairs many times by people in the car park, and also by guides. He is also seen standing in a doorway a couple of times. Psychics regularly visit 'Highfield' and have described a tall, thin, bearded man wearing a long dark suit walking around sometimes holding his head, sometimes with blood coming from his head, and sometimes compaining of a headache.
A couple of experiences I have had are hearing footsteps in other rooms, a loud bang coming from inside a chest where we keep convict costumes when I was standing right next to it, being touched lightly on the hand and neck, a figure which disappears every time I stand in a particular doorway upstairs, and most of all, eerie feelings in certain rooms like a presence of being watched or someone behind me. There is one room I dont like and I always shut the door when doing tours as we dont use it. This is the study and I was interested to find out that when psychics come to 'Highfield' they say there is an evil presence in there. The rest of the feelings throughout the house aren't evil feelings, more sad ones, but this room is definitlely different.
Anyway come and see 'Highfield' if you ever come to Tassie and see or hear for yourself!

At the Quarantine Station..
Submitted by: Emma - NSW Australia (Added 09/11/04)

g'day people ..
well this is really weird..
we went to this place called Manly, quarentine Station.. (were all the people used to go when they were sick, before they came to australia) on a school excursion because we were learning about the paranormal in english.
anyways, we got up to this one section, which were the showers, and not even the tour guide would go in because he said it was so scary that him and the other tour guides dont even go in there juring the day!
so there were about 30 students in the shower part, and because i didnt really believe in ghosts (up until the next point) everyone was hangin onto me. first let me explain what it looks like in there. you open the door, and there's a corridor with showers on the left and right.. and u can see right through the showers as there is a corridor on each side. (sorry if ive confused u all :) )
anyways, we walked down the corridor ive got my best friend attached to my left hand and another of my friends attached on my right hand... we walked down this corridor and around to walk up the corridor on the other side of the showers.. and big tough strong emma doesnt see ghost or anything because she doesnt believe right.. :) well thats wat i thought, anyway. i looked at the bottom of the shower and i saw FEET.. bare feet , as if someone was showering in there.. and as we were last of the 30 students i knew it couldnt be anyone in there + it was way to cold for anyone to be takng their shoes off, i closed my eyes and thought yeah right, and i opened them again, and they were still there i was to scared to open the door to the shower so, i just said.. run everyone move and i was pushing everyone out...
i told my friends and the tour guide over heard and he said "oh dont worry that just larry, he wont hurt u.. but ur lucky u didnt see anyone else there... the other blokes are all the mean ones"...
SCARED ME S***LESS
but thats not it.. we were walking up this absoulutely HUGE hill and me and my friends were in the middle of everone, as i was now scared, and no BuLL , i could here like a young girls voice saying "Lizzie were are you, Lizzie come back, Dont leave me its dark and im scared" and this couldnt off been anyone with us because we were all 16/17 year olds.. i didnt want to say anything becasue i thought maybe i was the only one who could hear it.. but i wasnt because i could see everybody turning around and looking for something.. then the tourguide said, "dont worry thats just a emily who got lost looking for her sister, because her sister died here and she wonders around loking for her, and if you feel something cling to your hand dont be scared it only her and she thinks that your her sister so she wont hurt you." no sooner had he said that, it felt as if something was tuggin on my hand, i thought it was my best friend and i said.. "god your hands are cold sam" she said "emma !
my hands are in my pocket" i just stood there, and the tour guide then said "she got you hasnt she" i nodded he said " dont scare her away or she wont leave you alone, just grab her hand and keep walking" after a while i got used to the fact that i had a ghost attached to my hand.. NOT.. i was still scared, but wasnt as scared as the whole feet thing... she had soon let go.. |
a little while later we got back to head quaters...and while everyone was reminising about what they saw and didnt see, the tourguide pointed to me and said "can u come with me, bring your friend..." i thought ok.. so i grabbed sam and we went inside he pulled out this huge book with all photos of people who had died there and their photos, we go to a girl who was 16 when she died named Elizabeth Laing...
ok here's the weird part.. the photo, she looked exactely like me, except with out the beauty spot on her cheek like i do and her hair was longer, she was born on the 21st of september, so was i and my name was goin to be elizabeth and my last name is laing... WEIRD... now i dont know if some how i was realted to her or not, because i mean we looked exactely the same, but who knows.. right..
i know this may seem a bit far fetched thats what my mum said when i told her what had happened but then again, my mums a non believer too.
:) take it easy and remember... its not the dead that hurts you its the living...

Hitchhiker Ghost on the Central Coast #2
Submitted by: Rainbow Slinky - Brisbane (Added 09/11/04)
|
My husband grew up on the Central Coast, in Toukley and Gorokan. When I was looking up his old street in the street directory, I saw a park called 'Jenny Dixon Beach'. I asked my husband who Jenny Dixon was. He said that she was a girl who was hitch-hiking along The Entrance Road, when she was raped and murdered by four males. This happened around the 1960's or 70's.
Apparently a lot of people up around that area have 'picked up' a young girl, who just vanishes. Jenny Dixon was the girl's name, and this is who the section of beach and the park is named after.
It is said that Jenny haunts The Entrance Road, looking for her killers. Apparently they were charged, but were aquitted, because there wasn't enough evidence. Urban legend says that all four of Jenny's killers died in motor vehicle accidents, or by suicide, after seeing her ghost on The Entrance Road.
Jenny is buried at the cemetery at Norah Head, on The Entrance Road. My husband knows this for a fact, as he and his friends have visited her grave. He says that the headstone has been removed, as it was being vandalised. |

Noises from the basement...
Submitted by:
Darci - Ohio USA (Added 09/11/04)

I share my room with my sister. you have to walk through our room to get into my brothers room.
One night about 2:00 in the morning I started to shake. I heard some banging from the basment. I have a vent in my room and so does my brother so we can hear anything that comes from the basment, antway I was freaked out so I went into my brothers room. he is 14 Im12 and my sister is 8.
well when i went into his room he was sitting up in his bed shivering I asked if he heard the banging noise and he said yes. then we heard someone banging on the stairway wall. We checked it out and saw nothing. I went back into my room and fell asleep.
The next morning my mom came up to get us up for school. She asked if anyone of us heard a little girl calling out "Darci". That freaked me out enough. Then my mom walked in my closet and gasped because our attic door in my closet was open. I have big boards in front of the attic were thrown in the corner. I went to school and told my friends about it.
To this day we're still working on the case, and it gives me goose bumps just talking about it. |

Two Spooky Houses

I have a couple of ghost stories, mainly because my family is extremely attractive to the paranormal, I guess. Anywhoo, most of what I live with... I've experienced since I was young. Present day, I am turning seventeen in august and I have no history of mental health problems.
Now, when I was a kid.. I never enjoyed the basement or my mother's room. Something always freaked me out about it. Basements are usually creepy but... I can't explain it. You just know. In my mother's room, recently, I'd fallen asleep with my niece (she's 2 years old) and I began having nightmares, I've had recurring ones since I was a kid.. but this one involved the degrading of my character by this particular spirit. I know girls in puberty (which is when I began noticing... when I hit puberty) are good conductors because of the emotional energy they give off, which could explain certain aspects. There are more ghosts, one of which I have made friends with. He resides in my room, I believe he is a child for he never lets me sleep... he enjoys pestering me by playing with my hair, thumping.. tapping, all that. He's even come up to my friend. The last of which I am certain of resides in our bathroom. She is a suicide victim and remains in the spot in which she killed herself, I suspect. She lives in our shower.
Now, my sister's house (she is 22, she has a daughter named Alexis, and a retarded boyfriend named Michael) is haunted as well. When she was married (she is divorced now, the ex-husband is also Lexi's father), she was cleaning pots in her old home when she turned to see the stove burner on. I know you're thinking "She bumped it, big deal." The stove is one of the ones you turn the knob until it clicks to let you know it's on. Now are you thinking like that? |
After Lexi was born, my sister also had the urge to call her Elizabeth (her middle name is NOT Elizabeth nor did Amanda intend on naming Lexi that). My friend and I, while babysitting, also experienced that a cushion sank in, between us (sitting at opposite ends). In the new house, there is a mean ghost. He slaps the child, he scares her at night and he knocks her precious moments prayer off of her door (there's a nail and such with a silk ribbon attaching them). One night, I had been using my laptop next to Amanda's old computer and the keyboard wire for her old computer moved of it's own accord. To explain some of this phenomena, I guess I should say.. Amanda is a nurse intern, sometimes she encounters patients that die and some of which she was close with.
Anyhow, the houses are both spooky... but I'm happy I made a friend.

Prickly Cold Energy
Submitted by:
Dirk
- Adelaide, Australia (Added 22/06/2004)

It was a cold winter's night in Bendigo Victoria in 2003, the open fire crackled in the lounge, the high ceilings of the 1940s era house moaned and heaved with the rising heat, the floor boards creaked wherever you walked. The place had an old musty smell, like a dusty padock at first rain. The weatherboard Victoria style place probably hadn't had a splash of paint in 30 years and there were possums living in the roof. All the same it was what dad now called home. As much as I tried to get comfortable when I visited that old house I never really felt settled, it always felt like there was something there, as though we were the guests to something else. A TV programme on someone elses set.
The Vid. fininshed and I was buggered so off I went to bed, it was a big old room that was always cold and I jumped into bed. As I began to drift off I woke to the feeling that there was someone standing next to the bed, you know that feeling that you get when someones behind you. The room suddenly was filled with a prickly cold energy and I could not move, I could feel it getting closer, coming down the hall and throught the door. I tried to fight it. It came to the bed and layed down beside me, it looked like the outside of a candle and appeared to be an old ladie dressed in a translucent white cloak. I didn't dare look into her eyes. She lent over and started saying something in my ear which made me freak, the sound of her voice was out of this world and so un-natural, and what she told me was something profound and true but I refused to listen to her becasue I felt it was evil, she then left the bedside and went out of the door, I turned the light on and the room felt so so cold, and not from the temp, I turned the heater on but it was a different cold. What was wrong with her, what was she trying to do? |

Owl Teddy & Strange Presense
Submitted by: alix_xander - Australia (Added 22/06/2004)
|
I have had several experiences with ghosts and the paranormal ever since I was a young child. Although being absolutely terrified of it all it still interests me and I totally believe in it.
My first experience:
I was about 7 years old and my family had just moved into a new house and I was given my own room which I think I chose because it had a wall to wall bookcase.
I found my room very comfortable and I never had anything terrifying happen...that was until I started dreaming about a black wolf. This black wolf would visit me in my dreams all the time showing me his teeth and cornering me so I couldn't run. Next minute I would wake up and scream because my bed would be floating off the floor and spinning with me on it!!! AARRGGHHH...
Mum decided to put me in my sisters room for a while because even she was getting scared of what was happening to me...
A few months later my step dad brought me home a stuffed owl teddy he had found at the rubbsh tip and by this time I was sharing my room with my sister because we were expecting a baby brother and he was to have her room. We had bunk beds and I slept on the top. I would always sleep with my owl teddy close to me because I loved it.
One night, before Easter some time, I woke up because I could feel something up against my face. It was my owl teddy. I looked at it a little annoyed and turned away to face the other side to sleep. Next minute I hear something and above my head was the teddy which then proceeded to land near my face. I, again, turned away to go back to sleep but it did the same thing again. |
In the end I went to sleep and ignored it because obviously it wanted to be there. The next morning I told my mum what happened and she disposed of it. Then all the scary things stopped!
My next experience:
About 4 months ago my sister and my niece were sleeping over and everytime my niece is at my house you can feel an instant energy everywhere.
On this night I woke up at about 3am (looked at watch after) because I felt a strange presence on my side of the bed. When I went to look my body went numb and shots of energy were thrown into me. I couldn't move or talk but I could still feel the presence and the intense energy. This happened three times and after I didn't want to go back to sleep.
The next morning I told my nanna who said to me that a presence will do that to stop us from panicking.
This also happened to my boyfriend about a month ago. He said he could see a ball of energy and painful shots were sent into him. He also couldn/t move or talk because he tried to wake me.
All for now... Something else is bound to happen!
